My TiVo Replacement Arrived, But…

At 1:00 today, UPS delivered the replacement for my recently departed TiVo. I carefully opened the box and took out the supposedly factory refurbished unit. It looked nice and new and I was excited about setting it up today. 

I connected all the cables and plugged the unit into the wall…

There was no response.  No lights, no whirring of the fan, no hum of the hard drive.  Needless to say I was disappointed, especially in light of the fantastic customer service and response time. 

I called TiVo again and they quickly responded to my satisfaction.

This leaves me wondering though, what "factory refurbished" means to TiVo.  I asked the customer service person what the refurbishing procedures are, and the best answer I got was that they checked to see if those particular units worked before they sent them to customers.  I could not get any specific details other than that and he honestly told me that he didn’t know the details himself.

I wish I had received a more definitive answer to that question but I’m still pleased by the company’s response, and am completely satisfied that TiVo is a company that will continue to honor their agreements and stand behind their products. 

TiVo is going to replace the replacement.  Hopefully the next one will work as promised.
