Isn’t Life Strange?

There is some controversy in certain circles about Barack Obama’s place of birth, and whether or not he meets the Constitutional requirements to run for the office of President of the United States. 

To be honest, I have no idea what the controversy is.  As far as I know, his mother was an American citizen which should make him an American.  I am not certain of the specific details or the law in these matters however. 

A supposed copy of his birth certificate was obtained by the Daily Kos, a liberal online discussion forum, and an image posted on their web site.  There has been some discussion about this image on the blogosphere. 

When I first saw the image I thought it looked a little unusual, like a computer generated document rather than the sort of certified document we might expect.  But as I have not seen a birth certificate in some time, or have any idea what an official record of this kind looks like in all fifty states, I didn’t think much of it when I first saw the document. 

A blogger at Townhall.com has written an analysis of the document and raises some questions about its authenticity.  At the very least, it is an interesting read, complete with image samples and a detailed explanation of the oddities the author observed.  You can read the article here.

Discaimer: Townhall.com is a conservative editorial and news web site.  I make no claim to the level of objectivity or fairness of anything posted there, and in actuality I’ve never spent time there.  I have no idea if or how Barack Obama is tied to the release of this image online, but have serious doubts that Obama himself or his campaign staff have anything to do with it.  If this document is indeed a forgery, I would hope those people tied to the Obama campaign would be smarter than this and not have anything to do with it. 

I have no other comment about the document itself or any of the controversy surrounding it.  I just thought I would pass this along.  These are seriously strange times folks.
