A few days ago I took in PIXAR’S latest animated gem, WALL-E.  I found the movie to be a beautiful piece of art.  Though it is definitely a departure from their typical fare, this PIXAR feature did not disappoint me in any way.  Children may have a hard time with it, as much of the movie is without dialogue. But adults without attention deficit disorder should do fine.

Some interesting controversy has to do with the message that the film delivers.  Some believe that it is a vehicle for the climate change and anti-capitalist/big business crowds.  They see that the world has been rendered unlivable and that at the time the world was abandoned, only one large corporation existed.  Some pick up on this cue and immediately think "Ah-ha!  Those evil, corporate bastards did this to us!"

Others have looked at the film from a completely opposite point of view, this movie tells us that when we abandon our individualism and place responsibility to care for ourselves in the hands of a huge collective entity, we lose touch with our humanity.

Does the movie have a conservative message or a liberal message?  While I believe the movie indeed has a message that conservatives should embrace, the movie is in no way a reflection of politics.  It is however a very clear vision of what could happen when we abandon our responsibilities and expect others to pick up the slack.

Look around at some of the political discussion forums if you want a good laugh.  They really are making too much of a big deal out of this.

There’s an interesting opinion piece on this subject in the LA Times.  feel free to take a look.
