Ike Update #5

Though Ike has a large wind field, it is not a particularly well-organized storm. It will still bring hurricane-force winds and rain. Some are now saying Ike may only be a Category 2 storm when it reaches land.

The eye of the storm is expected to travel north on I-45, which means it will pass directly over me. I hope that by the time Ike gets to me, it will be significantly weakened.

Galveston and other coastal areas are now flooding although the storm is still over 200 miles offshore. Waves are crashing into the Galveston flood wall, shooting water several feet into the air. The local news has talked about a dangerous and deadly flood surge from this storm since early yesterday, and it appears that the worst of it will be in Galveston Bay.
