Spirit of ‘76
Published October 23rd, 2008 in Journal, Videos, MusicI’m feeling a bit nostalgic today. Maybe it’s the music I’ve been playing or perhaps it’s been helped by my first Jack and Coke, but there are days I would give anything to go back to the 1980’s and enjoy my days as a young man. I have to admit that there is very little youthful optimism left within me and I don’t know if it is a matter of maturity or some other factor that has me feeling this way. Life is so certain when we’re young and know everything. And then we grow up to find that we had it made when we were young and living under Mom and Dad’s roof.
Back then I really had no major care in the world. I thought I did, but time has a way of making important things look so trivial. If I could go back and meet the young man I was, I’m sure I would have plenty to tell him - and I know he wouldn’t like hearing it. I was a butthead back then - and to a degree I still am.
That’s enough of the window into my psyche…
One of my favorite bands from that era is The Alarm. I remember discovering them on MTV - back when the channel was young and featured music videos and other related programming. I had been channel flipping and stopped to watch a live concert performance of this band. The sound was so raw and energetic and it was new and exciting compared to much of the music I had been hearing on local radio. Though The Alarm had a few big hits, they never reached the stardom that similar bands of the time (U2) would find.
But to this day, I still think Mike Peters kicks Bono’s ass.
Enjoy!
Dude, I didn’t know Fabio had a band!!
