Adventures in Walt’s World, Part 1

After a grueling two-day drive through heavy rain and Thanksgiving traffic, I finally reached Disney’s All Star Music Resort at about 2 PM.

In the future, I’ll have to put better thought into making my first night’s dinner reservations. I really didn’t have much time to relax and get settled before it became necessary to head to Epcot for an early dinner. I had mixed feelings about going, mostly due to the terrible weather.

I had a little time before dinner, so I decided to make a visit to the newly renovated Spaceship Earth (that’s the gigantic iconic sphere). They did a fantastic job getting this attraction cleaned up and modernized. On Spaceship Earth, guests take a trip back in time to see how communication and the ways in which we share information has shaped our world.

Dinner was at Tutto Italia, the “new” (under new management) Italian restaurant in the World Showcase. The pasta dish I had was simple, but very good. It had small bits of pasta almost like shells, Italian sausage, and tomato sauce. Though the dish was nothing special, the pasta was very fresh and the sauce was good. I also ordered a very simple Caesar salad, and a basket of assorted breads was complementary.

The service I received was excellent and the waiter was friendly and helpful. My only complaint about the meal is the price. Take a look at the menu (click the link in the above paragraph) and you’ll see what I mean. In my opinion, the prices there are a bit too steep for even the simplest of meals.

After dinner, I stopped to hear the last few pieces in the Candlelight Processional show. John O’Hurley (Seinfeld’s J. Peterman) was tonight’s narrator.

I stopped by the Canada Pavilion to watch O’ Canada, the 360 degree film presentation with Martin Short, and before I left the park, I walked onto Test Track without having to wait. That was perhaps the most entertaining moment of the evening, as I shared a ride vehicle with four teenaged girls who had never experienced the attraction before. There was lots of screaming. I got a kick out of it.
